Nikon generously saves Mount Ontake’s victims photos

20141111-155414.jpg
The unexpected eruption of Mount Ontake on September 27 claimed the lives of 56 hikers, leaving family members to try to understand why their loved ones had been taken so suddenly. But out of this tragedy comes a heartwarming gesture, giving the family of one victim the chance to get back a small piece of their father who never made it down the mountain that day.

As you can see, the entire area is covered in a thick layer of ash and cabins that were built on the mountain side have been ripped open by flying debris and rocks. The several hundred nature enthusiasts who took advantage of the autumn weekend on September 27 were completely caught off guard, many unable to flee the nightmarish scene when the mountain suddenly and violently erupted.

Sadly, 66-year-old Kazuo Wakabayashi of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture was among the victims. An avid photographer, Wakabayashi would frequently go on fishing and photography trips, his hike up Mount Ontake just a part of his hobbies. He took a newly purchased Nikon camera with him on his hike, which was later returned to his family on October 1, broken and covered in ash.

When the folks at Nikon read about Wakabayashi’s story after it was published in the Yomiuri Shimbun, they reached out to his family and offered to repair the broken camera. Over the course of 10 days, the lens, filter and all interior parts were fixed and the red body of the Nikon camera that had been grayed with ash was restored to its original vibrant color, free of charge. The restored camera was returned to Wakabayashi’s second daughter, along with 200 photos that Nikon also managed to recover.

Although the pain of losing a loved one never truly goes away, we hope their father’s restored camera and the photos he took just before his death have helped the Wakabayashi family heal from such a tragic and sudden loss.

Awesome Fall Photo Specials, one of the best seasons to have a session

Fall is in full swing and the foliage and warm colors couldn’t be any more beautiful. This is one of the best times of the year to be outside and also one of the best reasons to have your family or individual portraits taken. Have them taken by the stream and trees behind my studio or a favorite location of your choice. This really is a very exciting time for photo’s and memories!

I have three great packages available and of course if you just ask me we can easily add more prints or options.

J. Zaring donating session to Baby Holler Adoption Journey

Travis and Michelle Holler

October 18th (4 pm to 7 pm):  There will be a silent auction at the Central Juniata EMS Building (Pennsylvania) as well as an all you can eat Spaghetti Supper – $8 for adults $4 for children ages 5 to 12 and under 5 free!

This benefit’s Travis and Michelle Holler’s journey to adopt a baby and I encourage anyone to support this cause by donating services or items for the silent auction, attending one of their events or by simply donating via their website.

Please check out the SILENT AUCTION ITEMS!

Here’s a history of Travis and Michelle’s journey taken from their site:

“Travis Holler, the son of Lois Hess-Hoover and the late Jeffrey Holler and the late Charles “Ed” Hoover, was born on March 12.  He spent several years being raised in Perry County and later moved to Enola with his parents, where he graduated from East Pennsboro High School in 1994.

Michelle Lyter-Holler, the daughter of Tom and the late Peg Casner-Lyter and step-daughter to Carol Lyter, was born on May 25.  She was born and raised in Juniata County, living most of her school years on Cedar Street.  In 1990 Michelle graduated from Juniata High School and 1995 graduated from Shippensburg University.

We met in September of 2008 on a social networking site.  Our first date, October 9, 2008, was dinner and a movie in Carlisle.  There was something that just “clicked” for us and we began spending a lot of time together.  Travis proposed on Easter at the family gathering to celebrate the holiday in 2009.  We were married on our two year anniversary of our first date – October 9, 2010!  Surrounded by our family and friends, our wedding was the beginning of our life together.  2010 was a big year for us because not only did we get married but we also bought our first house in the Licking Creek area that we share with our two fur kids, Faith and Ellie.

As we began trying to have a child, there were many bumps in the road.  As some of these bumps were cleared, others soon took their place.  In June, 2013 the medicines had an awful reaction in Michelle and the hopes to have a biological child had come to an end.

Faced with a decision to remain childless or push onto other options, we decided to push on and explore other options.  We are both very eager to be parents and experience raising a child.  Since this isn’t the first time that either of us have faced a challenge in our life, we decided to give this a try.

We researched how to become foster parents, read some books about the foster care system and then in September, 2013 made the plunge to start the approval process.  We have met some wonderful ladies that work for Family Care for Children and Youth (FCCY) that came to visit us, explain the process and then begin the paperwork.  At the end of March, 2014 we got our approval letter that we are now officially foster parents.  We are currently waiting for our first placement and couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds with the children that will come to us.

So how does adoption fit into this picture?  We are currently reviewing information from several agencies to adopt a baby.  This process is quite extensive as you might guess after all we are talking about a small child’s life and happiness.  There are also many fees that are associated with each step in the process.  We are going to begin having some fundraisers to help with our costs and we hope that our friends and family will be willing to help support us.  Please check in as we will update our progress often.  We will be adding our events where you can come see us.  And lastly we just want to thank everyone for taking the time to learn what we are trying to do.

God bless!

Love,

Travis and Michelle “

OCNJ 2014 tagged(To buy this OCNJ Print, just click the above photo)

Team Zaring will be at Ocean City New Jersey for Street Rod Weekend (on the boardwalk) and more. I’ll be photographing as many classic cars and street rods as I can. In addition, I’m going to be shooting some creative beach/ocean landscapes and possibly some portraits. You’ll see what I mean by “creative” later next week when I post some of them. I’ve been working on some new techniques involving some amazing technology and my Nikon D610.

Just Ducky. Local Wildlife

Just Ducky-15

This week I thought I’d share some photography from a new part of our daily routine. Nearly every chance my family and I get, weather permitting, we take a walk to the Charles Park in Middleburg and feed the ducks. Here’s a photo album, soon to be released in print form on the ImageKind fine art website. Enjoy!
